Canada's women's national team made history on Tuesday, winning their first ever match against Germany to earn their third consecutive victory and top Group F with nine points. Former Whitecaps FC women's player Melissa Tancredi played the hero with both goals in the 2-1 victory.
The Red and White now advance to the quarterfinals will they will face the runner-up of Group G, most likely France or New Zealand.
Canada had never earned a result against Germany, not a win or draw. That didn't look to change early on when the Germans went ahead on a 13th minute penalty kick.
