Canada Soccer announced on Wednesday that Vancouver Whitecaps FC Homegrown midfielder Alphonso Davies has been named the 2018 Canadian Player of the Year. Davies becomes the first Whitecaps FC player to win the country’s senior male player of the year award since it was first awarded in 1993.
Davies, who will officially join German powerhouse FC Bayern Munich in January after a record-breaking MLS transfer, had a breakthrough year in 2018. As a 17-year-old during the MLS season, Davies became the youngest player in league history to record double digit assists with 11, one short of the ‘Caps club record in MLS.
