The Alphonso Davies era is underway in Bavaria.
Davies, who came through Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s Academy before spending more than two seasons in Major League Soccer, made his first appearance for FC Bayern Munich on Sunday in the final of the Telekom Cup – a four-team friendly competition in which each team plays a pair of 45-minute matches.
The 18-year-old Canadian international started the final against fellow Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach, playing the entirety of the match on the right side of a 4-2-3-1 formation alongside Colombian international James Rodriguez.
After a tentative start, Davies grew into the match and began to show the attacking flair that caught the attention of Bayern and so many other clubs around the world during his time in Vancouver.
