Wake With Elias- Sept 9, 2021: Crosby To Miss Season Start, Flames Sign Another Ex-Canuck

The Pittsburgh Penguins won’t have Sidney Crosby in the lineup as they start the 2021-22 season, after they announced that he would be undergoing surgery to repair an issue with his wrist. The expected recovery period is around six weeks, meaning Crosby will miss at least 4 games. It’s the same wrist he had surgery on last offseason.

Add in there’s no current timeframe for the return of Evgeni Malkin, and the Pens will be heading out of the gate without their top 2 players. Malkin had surgery on his knee in June, and it’s not sure when he will be ready to return.
