PENTICTON -- He started the tournament with a bang -- just ask Connor McDavid -- and ended it late Monday afternoon by scoring the overtime winner.
Those were a nice set of bookends for Jake Virtanen, who clearly has a flair for the dramatic. The 19-year-old Abbotsford native probably wasn’t the Vancouver Canucks’ best player at the Young Stars Classic, but you noticed him almost every shift.
He hopes that continues at the Canucks’ main training camp, which begins Friday in Prince George.
“Should be a good next couple of weeks playing with the big boys,” said Virtanen, who scored on a breakaway in 3-on-3 overtime as the Canucks closed out the tournament at the South Okanagan Events Centre with a 3-2 win over the Calgary Flames.
