The Vancouver Canucks have finally signed Boston College netminder Thatcher Demko to a three-year entry-level contract. The Canucks’ second-round draft pick (36th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft has turned pro after weeks of speculation.
At 6-foot-4 and 195 pounds, Demko has a pretty decent size fit for pro play. The San Diego native is set to play for Team USA at the IIHF World Championship this coming May in Russia. He will compete for the job with NHL back ups Keith Kinkaid and Mike Condon.
The 20-year-old netminder will likely play his first pro year solely as a Utica Comet as Ryan Miller and Jacob Markstrom take up the two top two slots on the Canucks depth chart with the big club in Vancouver.
