The Vancouver Canucks have signed goalie Thatcher Demko a two-year contract extension worth $1.05 million per season, the team announced Wednesday.
Demko, 23, had finished his entry-level deal with the Canucks and was slated to become an RFA. The new contract is a good price for a netminder whom many regard as “the goalie of the future.,” here on the west coast.
Vancouver selected Demko in the second round — 36th overall — in the 2014 draft. He made his NHL debut last season against the Columbus Blue Jackets, turning aside 26 saves on 30 shots in a 5-4 overtime victory.
