Jacob Markstrom has been the unsung hero for the Vancouver Canucks, enjoying one of his finest seasons with a 16-10-3 record, .910 save percentage and 2.80 goals against average.
The same cannot be said about backup Anders Nilsson, whose mighty 2018-19 struggles continued in Monday’s ugly 4-0 shutout loss to the New Jersey Devils. The 28-year-old Nilsson is now 3-8-1 on the season with a 3.09 goals against average and .895 save percentage.
It’s quite obvious that Nilsson — a pending UFA — would benefit from a fresh start. He posted far better numbers with the Buffalo Sabres and New York Islanders in his career.
