The Vancouver Canucks made a couple of moves on the first day of free agency.
The biggest move of the day was a trade. Zack Kassian, along with a 2016 fifth-round pick, was traded to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Brandon Prust. Kassian underachieved in his two and a half seasons with the Canucks after being acquired from the Buffalo Sabres for Cody Hodgson.
Prust will give the Canucks some toughness this season, but he is an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season. If he doesn’t re-sign in Vancouver, they have potentially dealt a pick and a player that could still find a way to fulfill his potential in Montreal for pretty much nothing.
