The Vancouver Canucks have a difficult decision to make with 32-year-old defenceman Alexander Edler, as the Feb. 25 trade deadline draws closer.
Edler is slated to hit free agency this summer, so the Canucks have three choices here: Re-sign, trade or hold onto Edler until the end of the season, then try to work out a deal. Edler, the longest-tenured Canuck, has been the team’s top blueliner this season.
But according to Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre, general manager Jim Benning emphasized that the goal is “to negotiate a contract extension” with Edler.
