The Vancouver Canucks made a trio of questionable free agent signings, as general manager Jim Benning gave Antoine Roussel and Jay Beagle $12 million each over four years, while Tim Schaller got $3.8 million over two years.
Though Benning was criticized for handing out too much money and term to these bottom-six forwards, we can at least understand his desire to have more toughness, character and leadership on the roster.
That being said, Benning hasn’t dipped his feet in the blueliner market, where 27-year-old Calvin de Haan remains available.
