Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning Sending a Message to Utica Comets

Mike Zalewski was signed by the Vancouver Canucks as a free agent in March 2014, after standing out at the BCHL and NCAA levels. He played two games for the Canucks that year but spent the entire 2014-15 season with their American Hockey League affiliate, the Utica Comets. Vancouver did not re-sign Zalewski following that campaign, but the 23-year-old decided to sign an AHL-only with the Comets to remain a part of the Canucks organization.

That move clearly paid off. Now halfway through the 2015-16 campaign, Zalewski has eight goals and 17 points in 36 games.
