For the Vancouver Canucks, Wednesday’s preseason game against the Calgary Flames was not about winning, but rather to evaluate which players are worthy of roster spots as opening night draws closer.
Vancouver fell 4-1 in a game that didn’t seem to energize the crowd at Rogers Arena much, but head coach Travis Green and general manager Jim Benning had to love what they saw from some players on Wednesday.
Top goalie prospect Thatcher Demko did give up 18 goals on 21 shots, but he can’t be faulted for either of them.
The first one was on a partial breakaway, which is almost never a goalie’s fault.
