Vancouver Canucks: Brandon Sutter trade to Pittsburgh Penguins makes sense

When the Vancouver Canucks eventually get Antoine Roussel back, general manager Jim Benning is going to have to find a way to clear both roster space and cap room.

One of the prime trade candidates would be veteran centre Brandon Sutter, if his contract didn’t carry such a hefty cap hit. so difficult to move. The 30-year-old has two more years left on his deal, each carrying a $4.375 million per year, according to CapFriendly.

Injuries and inconsistency have led to a frustrating tenure in Vancouver for Sutter. He’s only appeared in 190 games up to this point, with 37 goals, 75 points and a minus-22 rating.
