Four members of the Vancouver Canucks were named Wednesday to the initial 16-man rosters for this summer’s World Cup of hockey.
Sweden will have the top Canucks contingent with three players — forwards Daniel and Henrik Sedin, plus goalie Jacob Markstrom — while Team Europe (a.k.a. The Rest of Europe, minus Sweden, Finland, Russia and the Czech Republic) will welcome forward Jannik Hansen.
The Canucks’ recent youth surge, alas, did not result in any Vancouver players being named to North America for players aged 23 and under. Rival teams, meanwhile, like the Calgary Flames had a pair of young stars (Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau) named to that squad.
