VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks have placed defenceman Yannick Weber on waivers.
The move was made to make room for fellow defenceman Dan Hamhuis, who is ready to return to the roster after suffering serious facial injuries when he was struck by a shot during a Dec. 9 game.
Weber has no goals and five assists in 35 games with the Canucks this season and has been a healthy scratch the last seven games.
Last season, Weber scored 11 goals for the Canucks and was a key member of the team's power play. Weber's production last season convinced the Canucks to sign him to a one-year deal that is paying the Swiss native $1.
