VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks made a minor move on Wednesday, acquiring KHL defenceman Philip Larsen from the Edmonton Oilers for a conditional fifth-round draft pick in 2017.
Larsen, a 26-year-old 6-1, 183-pound blue-liner from Esbjerg, Denmark, has 12 goals and 26 assists for 38 points in 54 games for Jokerit Helsinki in the Russian professional league this season. He was originally drafted by the Dallas Stars 149th overall in the 2008 NHL draft, and went on to play largely in the AHL under (among others) present Canucks assistant coach Glen Gulutzan. Canucks head coach Willie Desjardins also worked in the Stars organization at that time.
