PENTICTON — Welcome to the Young Stars Classic, where the biggest star of all isn’t playing anymore.
Connor McDavid may be done in Penticton, but Jake Virtanen, Jared McCann and Brendan Gaunce are still playing.
Sunday, they played together, forming a line of first-rounders. They were good and so were the rest of the Canucks prospects, who dominated the Winnipeg Jets in a 4-1 win at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
It was a nice bounce-back game for the Canucks, who dropped their tournament-opener 8-2 Friday night to McDavid’s Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers announced Sunday that McDavid, who sat out Saturday night’s game against Calgary, would also not play when the Oilers finish their tournament Monday against the Jets.
