The Bulldog finally got his bone.
Alex Biega, a 27-year-old defenceman who logged 347 games in the minors while he chased his big-league dream, has been given a two-year contract extension by the Vancouver Canucks.
Nicknamed Bulldog for his shortish (5-foot-10) frame and tenacity, Biega was called up by the Canucks earlier this season and has logged 25 games on the Vancouver defence.
Biega, who was playing on a two-way deal, has signed a two-year $1.5-million one-way extension with the Canucks that will pay him $700,000 next season and $800,000 in 2017-18. He would have been an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
