VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks today announced they have signed Brandon Sutter to a five-year, $21.875-million contract extension that will take the newly acquired centre through the end of the 2020-21 NHL season.
The contract for the 26-year-old Sutter, who recorded 33 points (21-12-33) and 14 penalty minutes in 80 games with Pittsburgh Penguins last season, will carry an average annual value $4.375 million.
Sutter was acquired last week along with a 2016 third-round pick in a trade with the Penguins. Going Pittsburgh’s way in exchange were centre Nick Bonino, defenceman Adam Clendening and a 2016 second-round pick.
