They only play twice a year, but the Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs really have a rivalry like no other, for a variety of reasons.
Before Vancouver joined the NHL in 1970-71, many hockey fans in British Columbia cheered for one of the two Canadian teams — the Maple Leafs or the Montreal Canadiens. And ever since the NHL awarded a franchise to Vancouver, there have been intense bragging rights between the west coast team and the Original Six franchise.
Maple Leafs fans always invade Rogers Arena when Toronto comes to town, although Canuck supporters travel quite well when Vancouver heads east, too.
