Though the Vancouver Canucks are currently focusing on the expansion and entry drafts, there is no bad timing for a prospect signing. According to Rick Dahaliwal of NEWS 1130 Sports, Shawinigan Cataractes winger Alexis D’Aoust was signed to an AHL contract by the Canucks minor-league affiliate, the Utica Comets.
D’Aoust attended Canucks development camp last summer, but couldn’t convince Vancouver’s management to sign him to a deal then. Now that he has completed his fifth season in the QMJHL, however, there is really nothing to lose with the 21-year-old forward.
A free prospect is a free prospect — that’s the motto to live by for a rebuilding organisation.
