Finding success through freshmen continued to be a beneficial variable for Valparaiso University as the women’s soccer team won 1-0 over Illinois State in the conference season opener.
Freshman forward Dana Fish represented that variable, as she scored her second collegiate goal in the 83rd minute over the Redbirds.
The freshman was served the ball with a corner kick by sophomore forward Kelsie James. Fish said that scoring the goal was a bit of a blur.
“I just remember jumping and lunging, and then it hit the top of my ponytail,” Fish said. “In my mind, I was just saying ‘just get the ball, get the ball.
