SAN ANTONIO — Sophomore Chance Kirby has been named the starting pitcher for UTSA on Friday in the season opener against the Connecticut Huskies.
“We’re excited to have Chance back in the rotation,” UTSA coach Jason Marshall said Tuesday afternoon. “I think those experiences he had last year, throwing on the weekend, pitching in some tough locales, beating Rice on the road, those are valuable moments that hopefully he’ll be able to build upon as we start this spring.”
Kirby, a right-hander from Austin’s Hyde Park Baptist, went 5-4 with a 4.90 ERA last year.
It’s a tough opening-night assignment for Kirby.
