SAN ANTONIO — Patrick Toney has been hired as defensive backs coach at UTSA, according to a news release.
Toney comes from Sam Houston State to join the staff of new UTSA head coach Frank Wilson.
With Toney working as a secondary coach, Sam Houston forced 24 turnovers last year en route to an 11-4 record and a run to the semifinals in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.
Out of the 24 turnovers, 17 came on interceptions, including 13 by the defensive backs.
Toney is a native of Poway, California. Prior to his year at Sam Houston, he spent three years at Southeastern Louisiana.
