Second-half surge lifts UTEP past UTSA, 81-74

SAN ANTONIO — Guard Earvin Morris poured in 23 points to pace four players in double figures, leading the UTEP Miners to a regular-season closing 81-74 victory over UTSA.

In the Conference USA game played at El Paso, Morris hit 9 of 13 from the field for the Miners.

UTEP (18-13, 10-8) built a 17-point advantage in the second half and then hung on against the Roadrunners (5-26, 3-15).

Ryan Bowie and Nick Billingsley kept UTSA in the game for most of the day. Bowie contributed 22 points and 7 rebounds. Billingsley scored 19.

UTSA will open the postseason Tuesday when it takes on Florida Atlantic (7-24, 5-13) in the C-USA tournament’s first round.
