CORPUS CHRISTI — Behind individual leader Julie Houston’s 5-under-par day, the UTSA women’s golf team has built an 18-shot lead after the first two rounds of the Islanders Classic, which got underway on Monday at Corpus Christi Country Club (par 72/6,093 yards).
The Roadrunners turned in rounds of 289 and 291 and their 4-over 580 puts them ahead of Lamar (598), Sam Houston State (606), Houston Baptist (609) and host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (617) in the 11-team field.
Houston opened the 54-hole event with a 4-under 68 and followed with a 71 in the afternoon.
