Quarterback Jared Johnson set to join UTSA this summer

SAN ANTONIO — Quarterback Jared Johnson will join the UTSA football program this summer after graduating from Sam Houston State in May, Roadrunners coach Frank Wilson announced Monday.

Johnson will be eligible to compete immediately and will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Johnson produced 5,352 yards passing, 1,601 rushing and 50 total touchdowns in three seasons with the Football Championships Subdivision Bearkats.

Sam Houston advanced to the FCS playoff semifinals in 2014 and 2015.

Johnson was the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Year last fall but lost his job in the playoffs while battling an ankle injury.
