SAN ANTONIO — Former UTSA coach Larry Coker underwent hip replacement surgery over the holidays, two sources with knowledge of the situation said Wednesday.
But it’s uncertain how much of a factor it was, if any, in the coach’s decision to step down from his job.
“I don’t have time to talk right now,” Coker said Wednesday in a brief telephone conversation. “We’ll do it later on, all right?”
After nearly seven years, including the first five seasons in UTSA football history, Coker announced his departure Tuesday in a release issued by the school.
Meanwhile, a list of potential candidates is beginning to surface, with much work still to be done before a replacement can be named.
