The UTEP women's basketball team's offense ran hot and cold in Saturday night's 65-45 victory over New Mexico State and it hardly mattered.
Their defense saw to that.
The Miners blew out to a 32-point lead late in the third quarter by holding New Mexico State to 26 percent shooting and harassing them into 16 turnovers in those three quarters, rendering a late Aggie charge purely cosmetic.
UTEP won despite 23 turnovers, and mostly had the game secured by halftime after closing it on an 18-4 run that put the intermission lead at 32-17, and that run eventually went to 39-8 as the lead got to 53-21.
