Leadership wasn't always something that came easily for Kam Fisher.
The fourth-year junior forward and captain on the UTEP soccer team went through the typical growing pains, exacerbated by a coaching change after her freshman season. She needed time to mature.
Fisher, though, has always been big on self-examination, on reshaping herself for the better. Now, deep into her Miner career, she's not only one of the main leaders for the Miner soccer team, but also in the UTEP community as a member of the athlete committee on racial equality.
"Reflection is really important, that's where you grow," Fisher said.
