Sitting in UTEP volleyball coach Ben Wallis's office, within reach of his desk, is a piece of equipment that rarely leaves his grasp.
It's a measuring tape, one Wallis has taken all over El Paso as he searches for a home site for UTEP's newest sport — the beach volleyball program that was announced in January to begin play in the spring of 2023.
"I've run around town with that thing once they brought in beach," Wallis said. "I've been brainstorming. We're still working, putting our brains together on all kinds of stuff."
Wallis, who also has a looming "indoor" volleyball campaign to prepare for, has been a doubly busy man since January as he gets UTEP's 17th sport, and first new one since 2004, off the ground.
