Jevaughn Powell's undefeated regular season in the 400 meters and his All-American finish to the year earned him Conference USA men's track athlete of the year honors, as announced by the conference Thursday.
With a seventh-place finish in the finals of the NCAA Track and Field Championships, Powell, a sophomore, became UTEP's first All-American and first C-USA men's track athlete of the year since Michael Saruni in 2018 and the first Miner 400 All-American since Bert Cameron in 1983.
"Jevaughn had a fantastic year and he made a big leap forward as an athlete during this outdoor season,” UTEP coach Mika Laaksonen said.
