In the first two years of Kevin Baker's tenure as UTEP women's basketball coach, his rosters didn't have many players, and to protect what he had the Miners played at a crawl.
This offseason he went about fixing that and the results were all over the floor in a 63-50 opening victory over Cal-Riverside.
Using every one of his 12 available players, pressing non-stop against a Highlander team playing its third game in five days, the Miners forced a string of turnovers (13 in the first quarter, 28 for the game), bolted out to leads of 12-0 and 28-7 and never quit harassing Riverside two nights removed from beating New Mexico State.
