The UTEP women's basketball team ran into a buzz saw in the form of hot-shooting Florida International, which made seven of its first eight 3-point attempts to bolt out to a lead it held for a 72-70 victory.
The Miners dropped to 5-3 in Conference USA, and FIU, which came in shooting 29.7 percent from 3-point range, improved to 4-4.
How it went
Trailing by 17 midway through the second quarter and 11 early in the fourth, UTEP fought back to within 63-62 with 3:49 to play on a Jazion Jackson jumper, but by then there was no margin for error.
