UTEP evaded the trap and pushed its winning streak to five games.
Playing at UTSA two days after beating the Roadrunners by 26, UTEP broke open a close game with a 17-2 run starting in the middle of the third quarter and saw it home to a 67-51 victory.
The lead was 37-32 before the surge put the Miners ahead 54-34, and while UTSA answered with the next 12 points, UTEP had the pad it needed to keep its win streak going.
Quoting the coach
"We weren't ourselves in the first half, but we came into the locker room, regrouped and played a much better second half," coach Kevin Baker said.
