UTEP women turn over New Mexico State to reach 3-0

At some point, the UTEP women may have to find a strategy other than forcing a flood of turnovers from their opponent.

That day did not arrive Wednesday in a 76-61 victory against New Mexico State.

In a tightly-called foul fest (53 combined fouls) where both teams had to rely on their benches for large stretches, UTEP forced 28 Aggie turnovers and turned those into 32 points. That came in handy when the New Mexico State offense heated up late, but it proved too late to erase a 16-point UTEP lead built on those turnovers.

How it happened

The Miners began the process of building that lead in the first half when a motley assortment of bench players had to take over when starters Teal Battle, Elina Arike and Destiny Thurman all picked up two fouls in the first four minutes.
