A home game against winless-in-conference UTSA figured to be a good opportunity for the UTEP women's basketball team to save its nails some Haskins Center biting and take a look at the deep reserves.
The Miners followed the formula, using an early 19-3 run to take control and win its fourth consecutive game, 82-56. In going to 6-3 in Conference USA, they moved to 6-1 at home and for the second time this year a game at the Haskins Center wasn't extended into the final seconds.
This one, in fact, was settled well before halftime, as UTEP followed up the 19-3 run with a 16-4 surge and wasn't troubled by an inconsistent-shooting UTSA team that went to 0-9 in league play.
