The UTEP women did more than survive a had-to-have it basketball game at Charlotte on Wednesday night in a 70-64 victory.
The Miners began the process of slaying a demon.
In its first game since blowing a 19-point fourth-quarter lead against Western Kentucky, UTEP flirted with blowing a 16-point lead in the final 12 minutes, but ultimately made the key plays that got away last Saturday.
With a 54-38 lead down to 64-61 with 1:39 remaining, the Miners sandwiched baskets around a stop and improved to 8-5 in Conference USA and 15-7 overall. The 49ers fell to 6-7, 10-12 with two of those losses coming against UTEP.
