This time, the good news for the UTEP football team really is good.
After a 21-17 loss at Louisiana Tech, what the Miners did well — dominate on the defensive front, deal with adversity, claw and fight, prove they belong as a Conference USA contender — show the mark of a vastly improved squad.
What they did poorly — melt down on offense, commit way too many penalties, get in their own way — can be fixed.
The second half of that equation has been said glibly for years. The first half hasn't, and that is progress.
