It was a good day. Not a great day. But a good one.
UTEP's Miners played for the first time this season in the friendly confines of Helen of Troy Softball Field, taking on Middle Tennessee in a Conference USA duel and, on a beautiful, blue-sky, sun-swept Saturday afternoon, they began with a flourish. The day ended, though, just short of the perfect scenario for the home team.
The Miners roared away to a 7-0 lead over the Blue Raiders in the opener, much to the delight of a nearly-full house at Helen of Troy. They held on to take a 7-6 victory, notching their first conference win of the campaign.
