A UTEP softball team that likes to define itself with its grit put all of that on display Saturday afternoon to clinch a trip to the Conference USA tournament.
Trailing Florida International 3-2 in the fifth inning of a Game 1 they needed to punch their ticket to Birmingham, losing because of a controversial call that went against them, the Miners dug deep with a five-run inning that ranks as one of their biggest frames of the season.
They rode that to an 8-4 victory, meaning their 4-2 loss to FIU in the second game didn't matter much.
