UTEP secondary ready for test against Aggies

This time a year ago, Kalon Beverly might as well have been wearing a giant target on his chest.

As a true freshman cornerback playing in a scheme where he was going to be on an island, his first assignment was at Arkansas, where he was immediately put under siege.

Soon enough, another freshman, Nik Needham, was lining up at the other corner spot.

Those two still figure to be under fire Saturday when UTEP opens in Sun Bowl Stadium against a New Mexico State team probably missing its star running back, Larry Rose III. The Aggies and likely quarterback Tyler Rogers have a good history going deep with frequency and success against the Miners.
