The UTEP track team begins its outdoor season this weekend in Tucson thinking it could be nearing a breakthrough, particularly on the women's side.
The Miner women finished a disappointing sixth in indoors, but with the javelin throwers and 400-meter hurdlers joining the mix for outdoors, they could be ready to take a big leap forward. That would mean contending for a Conference USA title for the first time since 2017.
"No. 1 we need to get healthy," coach Mika Laaksonen said. "Indoors we were thin in numbers this year but we're going to be much stronger outdoors.
