The UTEP Miners say they are working to improve. Bret Bloomquist/El Paso Times
When Kai Locksley limped off the field three weeks ago against UTSA, the UTEP offense was just beginning to show some life.
There was a feeling then that the struggles at the quarterback position were part of larger problems, that the Miners were so unsettled on the line and so nonexplosive at receiver, the offense was going to sputter whoever took the snap.
When Locksley makes his return Saturday against UAB, the best defensive team in Conference USA, that foundation around him has transformed much for the better.
