UTEP Miners football great Kenneth George dies at age 87

Arriving at Texas Western in 1953 as a 6-foot, 185-pound offensive linemen from Graham, Texas, Kenneth George had much stacked against him.

That didn't matter to George, who was part of two Sun Bowl-winning teams and was captain of the Border Conference championship squad in 1956. He was named to the All-Border Conference team that year and was voted Texas Western's top blocker the two years before that. In 1981 he was inducted into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame.

George died Wednesday at age 87. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday in his native Graham.
