The biggest problem facing the UTEP men's basketball team as it prepares to host University of Texas San Antonio on Wednesday is simple to diagnose and hard to fix.
The Miners haven't been able to finish in late-game situations, in part because they don't have a true point guard and they aren't an experienced, veteran team.
The two point guards they are using, natural shooting guards Nigel Hawkins and Jordan Lathon, both briefly entered the transfer portal in the last week of 2019, Hawkins for less than 24 hours and Lathon for 10 days when he missed the two games in Florida.
