The UTEP men's basketball team knows a major theme of the season will be the search for points.
Finding them in the season opener against No. 12 Texas, in the first regular season game at the new Moody Center, wasn't a likely proposition. It didn't keep the Miners from scrapping deep into the second half of a 72-57 loss.
Trailing 31-14 inside 4 minutes to go in the first half and down 33-20 at the intermission, UTEP clawed within eight points several times in the last 10 minutes in an opener that had encouraging moments.
After pulling within 52-44 on a Kevin Kalu follow dunk with 7:42 remaining, the Miners earned Texas' full attention, and the Longhorns ripped off an 8-0 run that turned into a 15-3 surge to reestablish order.
