The season got away from the UTEP men's basketball team a month ago when the Miners lost a string of heartbreakers.
UTEP lived that most unwelcomed of emotions again, as one of its best efforts of the year came up just short in an 80-72 overtime loss to second-place North Texas.
After some unlikely heroics allowed UTEP to reach overtime in a game it mostly led in the second half, North Texas flexed its muscle in the extra period to move to 14-3 in Conference USA and 23-5 overall. UTEP fell to 12-15, 5-11 with its sixth loss in its last seven games.
