There may not be limits to how ugly UTEP can win basketball games this season.
The Miners tested that in a 73-61 double overtime victory against Alcorn State on Tuesday night in the Don Haskins Center, finding a way to win after making 1-of-16 3-pointers, 22-of-43 free throws and getting badly outrebounded.
They won in the second extra period because they held Alcorn State to 31 percent shooting on the night, including 1-of-11 in the two overtime periods when the Miners finally began to solve Alcorn's zone defense.
UTEP defended Alcorn on the final possessions of regulation and the first overtime, then held the Braves to two free throws in the second overtime.
